What is Saïd Global Entrepreneur Challenge (SGEC)?
SGEC is a global business plan challenge hosted by the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School. It is more than just a competition; based on the quality of an initial one-page business plan, applicants will receive mentorship and guidance from the University of Oxford's business students and alumni to help grow their ideas into practical 10-page business plans. These business plans will be entered into a final competition where winners will be selected from six global regions.
Why should I apply?
Involvement in SGEC allows entrepreneurs from all over the world to take advantage of the University of Oxford's resources and an incredible network of past, present, and future business leaders. Applicants are eligible for the following benefits:
● Mentorship from the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School
● Access/membership to Oxford Entrepreneurs, one of the leading student- entrepreneurship societies in Europe
● Cash prize and opportunity to present idea at an Oxford University event
● Eligibility for Saïd Business School Venture Fund financing (separate competition)
● Eligibility for Oxford Entrepreneurs TATA Idea Idol competition and cash prize of £10,000 (separate competition)
How does it work?
The Challenge includes three rounds of review.
Round 1:
● 15th January 2012: SGEC kickoff – click here to apply
● 30th January 2012: Deadline for teams to submit a one-page business plan
● 16th February 2012: Applicants are notified of application status
Round 2:
Teams develop 10-page business plans with mentorship from the University of Oxford's business network.
● 24th March 2012: deadline for 10-page business plans to be submitted
● 15th April 2012: Regional winners announced
Round 3:
Regional winners may choose to take part in the Saïd Business School Venture Fund competition, with the possibility of pitching to VC investors.
● 30th May 2012: Global SGEC winner(s) announced

Show off Your Technical Brainpower
Technology is everywhere. The IT Challenge sets out to connect with those students around the world that have the brainpower, interest, and the technical knowledge to design, run, and support enterprise infrastructures while managing diverse customer needs and scenarios. The IT Challenge puts the world's brightest IT minds to the test!
In the IT Challenge, students are tasked to develop, deploy, and maintain IT systems that are efficient, functional, robust, and secure. Each competitor needs to demonstrate proficiency in the science of networks, databases, and servers and an intimate understanding of how it must all fit together, both on-premise and in the cloud.
The IT Challenge does not require a team, it is an individual challenge.

Now is your chance to experiment and make your work available on a mobile device used by millions. Great apps start with strong functionality, add device-focused utility, and finish with an outstanding Windows Phone user experience. Plus you will be able to install the Windows Phone SDK which includes Expression Blend 4 for Windows Phone, Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone Phone Emulator. Your ideas combined with great tools – which one of the world's toughest problems will you solve?

You will be challenged to come up with a new business idea (related to the Space Industry) and to undertake a 3 minute presentation which you will have to post on YouTube within 24 hours of the challenge being released. The teams will be judged on the following criteria:
Creativity & Innovation, Costing, Marketing, and Communication.
The challenge will be posted on Saturday 28th of January 2012 at 09.00 IST and students will be asked to have their presentations uploaded to YouTube by 09.00 IST on Sunday 29th January 2012.
5 teams will be selected to go to the next round and these finalists will be announced no later than 7th February. Finalists will be asked to complete a short written assessment on Friday 10th February and will be interviewed (by video telephone from Strathclyde) on Monday 13th February 2012 and the individual prize winners and the runners-up will be selected and announced on that day.
The prize consists of a fully funded month-long trip to The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow during June - July 2012.
Sunday 10th June The Scottish Space School Week - an amazing week of space-related activity: meet NASA astronauts; be challenged as an individual and as a team member on space -related challenges. Meet like-minded Scottish Space School attendees from all around Scotland. It is an out of this world experience!
Monday 18th June Strathclyde Engineering Week - Discover all of the interesting, exciting and life-enhancing things that Strathclyde Engineers do: interact with the Formula Student Team; find out about our Engineering for Development projects - how the lives of African villagers are changed by our students; Visit the innovative Edinburgh company Think Tank Maths. Look at our off-campus world class research facility The Advanced Forming Research Centre: Meet the researchers at our award winning Advanced Space Concepts Lab.
Monday 25th June Accelerate Programme - This is your chance to put theory in to practice! From design to production - find out all about it. Work in a team to design and build your very own product. Meet new friends and take part in recreational activities.
Monday 2nd July Steepest Ascent Consultancy Week - This company was established in 2004 by engineers with extensive knowledge of DSP and digital communications systems and exploitable wireless/ mobile and DSP software IP. Put everything you have learned in the past weeks into practice and work as a team to produce a consultancy report for the company on the exciting area of cube satellites.
Finally you will be given the opportunity to spend an afternoon at The Farnborough Airshow (Monday 9th July) before flying home.
