Soliton Intern
Internships
What is this program about?
At Soliton, we are constantly working on challenging engineering projects and development activities in various cutting edge technologies. Through our internship program we invite undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D engineering students from reputed universities across the globe to come and be a part of this exciting work and apply the theory that has been learned in school to develop innovative solutions for real world applications. The student gets a chance to work closely with practicing engineers in Machine Vision, Computer Vision & LabVIEW during their internship at Soliton. This work (excluding any confidential portions) may be submitted to the college as the student's final semester project or masters research thesis.
What are the technologies that I can work on?
Computer Vision, Machine Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automation, DSP, FPGA and LabVIEW.

Students who are pursuing UG, PG & Ph.D courses in engineering can apply for an internship at Soliton. For UG, a minimum of 4 semesters should have been completed.
When & how should I apply?
Internships at Soliton are open all days across the year. Drop in a mail to us at internships@solitontech.com with your resume. We will respond with suitable project titles for which the applicant has to do some preliminary research and submit a brief proposal. The resume, proposal, and references will be used for the selection process.

Under its Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship Programme, the Foundation awards interest free loan scholarships to Indian students with a consistently good academic record. The amount of scholarship, up to a maximum of Rs. Fifteen Lacs, is decided as per the assessment of the Foundation. Scholarships are offered for postgraduate studies at prestigious institutions in India and abroad, in the fields of Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Law, Architecture and Management. The applicant is required to register online , a fee of Rs 500/- is payable through the online payment gateway. What is Saïd Global Entrepreneur Challenge (SGEC)?
SGEC is a global business plan challenge hosted by the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School. It is more than just a competition; based on the quality of an initial one-page business plan, applicants will receive mentorship and guidance from the University of Oxford's business students and alumni to help grow their ideas into practical 10-page business plans. These business plans will be entered into a final competition where winners will be selected from six global regions.
Why should I apply?
Involvement in SGEC allows entrepreneurs from all over the world to take advantage of the University of Oxford's resources and an incredible network of past, present, and future business leaders. Applicants are eligible for the following benefits:

Internship Position Details
2012 Internship Position Description information will be posted by 1/16 in our Jobs Database (click on Find a Job on right-side menu, or go back to the main Internship page, then click Current Internship Openings). More about How to Apply can be found below.
Who is Eligible for the International Internship Program?
This program is open to graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled at accredited 4-year colleges and universities.
Candidates must hold a valid passport from a country other than Taiwan (ROC).
Program Dates
Summer Interns should be available to work one of the following periods:
Summer Period 1: May 8 to July 17, 2012
Summer Period 2: June 19 to August 24, 2012
For longer internships (4-6 months), dates are flexible depending on student and department needs.
What we offer
[Note: The package described below is standard, however it may differ in some cases depending on the circumstances; details of your offer will be confirmed if you are selected.]
-Free on-site accommodation on ITRI campus - modern dormitories on a spacious campus with dining and recreational facilities
-Monthly stipend (before taxes): Undergraduates NT$30,000/mo.; Master's program students NT$32,000; Ph.D. students NT$35,000/month
-Free ITRI Group Insurance (Note: this is Accident Insurance - those who want full medical coverage must purchase it independently.)
-Valuable work experience in one of the world's leading R&D institutes. Interns will be introduced to their project and assigned an appropriate role based on abilities and interests.
-A tour of the Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park with company site visits, to promote understanding of Taiwan's technology industry.

How do I apply?
To review Internship Position Descriptions and apply:
1. Click on 'Find a Job' from the menu right, or return to main Internship page, then click on Current Internship Openings (in right column).
2. Summaries of all internship openings should be displayed. To review the detailed position description, click on the Job Title ("Job position name").
3. To Apply for a position, add it to your "Job basket" by clicking the folder icon to the left of the Job Title.
4. To apply click on the Job basket tab and then click on Apply. If you have not already registered in the system click on Register; otherwise Logon and then Apply.
Notes on Registering in the system:
When you click on Register scroll down and fill in the basic information to get started. For ID / Passport number you can enter any 10 digits, you do not have to enter your actual passport number. But this number becomes your User ID, so make a note of it.
When you first Register, the system may not take you directly to the screen to complete your profile – if not, please use the Update Resume link at right.
If at any time the interface comes up in Chinese, click on the pull-down menu upper right and select English. If this does not work, first click on Internship Position Openings and then from there click on Update Resume.
You do not need to spend a lot of time filling in every detail of your profile, just fill in the required fields (marked with "!") and attach your CV / resume. On tab 4 ("Autobiography"), click the green + next to "Works attachment" to attach your CV/resume (and any other relevant files). Anything else relevant to your application (motivation, desired dates, etc.) can be entered in the Autobiography box on tab 4.

When is the application deadline?
Short answer: end of February. Long answer: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis – we encourage interested students to apply as soon as you can. Application for most positions will close around the end of February and we hope to inform all decisions by the end of March. We will remove positions as they are filled, so if a position is posted that means application is still open.
Notes
-Unless otherwise specified, the working language for these internships will be English; if knowledge of Mandarin is required it is noted under Desired Background in the Position Description.
-Interns are responsible for their travel expenses to and from ITRI's Taiwan campus.
-ITRI will obtain work permission for accepted interns, who must then obtain ROC visas from the nearest Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office before departing their home country (for locations/more info see http://www.taiwanembassy.org/dept.asp?mp=1&codemeta=locationIDE.
-ITRI also offers some internships through the Taiwan Tech Trek program, which is run by the National Science Council of the ROC and targeted at second-generation overseas Taiwanese. If you have Taiwanese ancestry, you can apply for internships at ITRI (and many other fine organizations in Taiwan) through the Taiwan Tech Trek website. (Note: TTT application deadline is February 5, 2012.)
-ITRI will be closed to celebrate Lunar New Year from 1/23 – 1/27/2012 (we return to work on 1/30) - we apologize for any delay in responding to your inquiries.
For ROC citizens: If you are an ROC citizen who does not hold any foreign passport, you are not eligible for the International Internship Program positions on this website. For those who hold only ROC citizenship, ITRI does offer internships, but this is handled by each department individually. If you are interested, please send your CV/resume to career@itri.org.tw, with a brief message indicating which department(s) are of interest to you.
Foreign males of Taiwanese descent, between ages 18 and 40 (inclusive), and carrying foreign passports are not advised to stay in Taiwan for more than four months. If you participate in this program and decide to arrive earlier or leave later than the scheduled program dates, the total length of your stay in Taiwan should not exceed four months to avoid conscription problems. For more details on military service, please check with your nearest ROC embassy, consulate or representative office, or with the Ministry of the Interior

Reach for the Stars
THE CHALLENGE
You will be asked to work in teams of 2
You will be challenged to come up with a new business idea (related to the Space Industry) and to undertake a 3 minute presentation which you will have to post on YouTube within 24 hours of the challenge being released. The teams will be judged on the following criteria:
Creativity & Innovation, Costing, Marketing, and Communication.
- Student teams will be asked to register to take part in the competition.
- Registration will run from 9th January 2012 at 09.00 (Indian Standard Time) until 17.00 IST on 24th January 2012.
- 200 teams will be selected at random to take part in the challenge.
The challenge will be posted on Saturday 28th of January 2012 at 09.00 IST and students will be asked to have their presentations uploaded to YouTube by 09.00 IST on Sunday 29th January 2012.
5 teams will be selected to go to the next round and these finalists will be announced no later than 7th February. Finalists will be asked to complete a short written assessment on Friday 10th February and will be interviewed (by video telephone from Strathclyde) on Monday 13th February 2012 and the individual prize winners and the runners-up will be selected and announced on that day.
THE PRIZE
The prize consists of a fully funded month-long trip to The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow during June - July 2012.

Monday 2nd July Steepest Ascent Consultancy Week - This company was established in 2004 by engineers with extensive knowledge of DSP and digital communications systems and exploitable wireless/ mobile and DSP software IP. Put everything you have learned in the past weeks into practice and work as a team to produce a consultancy report for the company on the exciting area of cube satellites.
Finally you will be given the opportunity to spend an afternoon at The Farnborough Airshow (Monday 9th July) before flying home.

Peak Time is the biggest international student business competition in Eastern Europeand it is becoming a strong brand name in the world of business. In 2011 Peak Time attracted more than 1500 participants from 75 countries.Peak Time facilitates the development of a global network for the future business leaders; it promotes international cooperation and the creation of new opportunities. The final event in Riga, May 2nd-5th, gives an opportunity for students to expand their networks and exchange ideas with the most successful business students worldwide, as well as provides first-hand knowledge from international guest lecturers and workshops.

the Aap Ki App Contest!
AapKiApp is a contest organized by Datawind, inviting all budding app developers in India to make apps for the Aakash tablet. This is a nationwide opportunity for all students and amateurs to showcase their creative energy and technical expertise. Aakash is a tablet for the masses and we want to involve the student community in creating solutions for the Indian market. Students have the capacity to think out of the box and create solutions that escape the minds of technology professionals. We want to harness this inherent strength in the Indian student population and use it to create meaningful applications for use by the general population.
The top five applications submitted will be awarded a prize money of Rs. 1 lakh each. These five applications will be pre-installed on the device and advertizing revenue from these applications will be shared with the app developers. This will help bring these developers to the limelight and also kick start their entrepreneurial journeys. This initiative will give students an opportunity to be a part of history, as the next billion users join the internet age.
