Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2012
Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award, now in its 2nd edition, aims to reward progressive and practical action in the area of promoting sustainable solutions in urban mobility. It involves prize moneys of 1 million Indian Rupees, which includes a first prize of INR 700,000 and INR 300,000 for the runners-up. The award is given typically in the month of October under the aegis of the Sweden-India Nobel Week Seminar and during the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Seminar, which is now in its fourth year. The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Seminar includes a cross-section of panelists and audience from all walks of lives – the authorities, the citizens, the industry, the media among others.
The Volvo Sustainability Award aims at creating a culture of supporting progressive and practical steps, positively engaging the world around us to deliver sustainable transport solutions and there by better quality of life to millions of people. This would include initiatives both in city transport and long-distance travel. Volvo Buses aims to use this award to engage with all the stake holders in public transportation, supporting them and also learning in the process.
The first edition of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award took place in October 2011 with the awards being handed over by the then President & CEO, Volvo Bus Corporation. It attracted entries from groups involved in various aspects of sustainable mobility to improve the urban transport system in Indian cities & drive citizen’s quality of life. We received entries from a cross section of groups, which comprised institutions involved in developing solutions for sustainable mobility, organisations involved in promoting public awareness about public transport, including student groups working in this area. However, we look forward to the 2012 edition to see even greater participation & thank all those who participated in the first season of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2011.
It is 2012, and we are calling for entries from groups that are continuing their efforts to being about a change in the urban mobility scenario in India. The focus is on identifying and encouraging ideas & suggestions that promote collaboration & engage with key stakeholders in order to bring about the desired change. This award is initiated to give recognition & appreciation to people and organisations that contribute towards sustainable development of urban mobility.
About Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2012
Volvo welcomes all groups /organizations/institutes that are working towards developing innovative ideas with a clear intent of creating sustainable transport systems in cities. Priority would be given to efforts already in progress and which have had a practical impact on people’s life.
Terms & Conditions for Eligibility
1. Organizations directly involved with manufacturing or operating public transport as part of their business are not eligible for the main award .
2. The first award includes a cash award of INR 700,000, while the Runners up will get an award of INR 300,000
3. Special recognitions will be conferred upon entries that have taken the first steps in making a change and need encouragement
How to apply
Interested groups /organizations/institutes should register by providing details in the form below and submitting the same. Following this the parties must submit their project report in the stated format, before the deadline stated. Please refer to the application guidelines and judging parameters below.

Final Submission of the Project report
The final report can be sent via email or courier to reach us by September 10, 2012. The report should be no more than 25 pages and as per the content listed below.

Proposed Terms & Conditions
1. The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award is offered by Volvo between 17th May 2012 and 30th October 2012 in India. By applying for this Award the applicant agrees to and accepts all terms and conditions and the procedure set out by Volvo.
2. Any entries received after the deadline for last receipt, i.e., 10th September, 2012 will not be accepted.
3. A three stage process will be followed, comprising:
a) Initial Screening of Applications - Applications will be screened to eliminate incomplete or wrongly filled ones, and a preliminary assessment of the entries will be done.
b) Assessment & Jury shortlist - A special panel of experts will be constituted to review the shortlisted applications. Field visits/interviews may be conducted to review projects of each of the shortlisted applicants.
c) Award Function – An award function where the winners will be felicitated by Volvo.
4. Entries will be evaluated largely on the following parameters:
a) Significance of the issues addressed
b) Scale of impact
c) Replicability
d) Sustainability
e) Finances
f) People’s participation / Level of engagement with society
g) Innovativeness
5. All selections and/or decisions made by Volvo in relation to this Award (including without limitation, the selection of winners) will be final and conclusive. No enquiries or complaints will be accepted or entertained. Winners will be intimated via email / post and their names will be published online at

6. Volvo reserves the absolute right to, at its sole discretion, amend, vary and/or withdraw any of the terms and conditions of this Award without any prior notice and the same shall be binding on all applicants.
7. For the visits and interviews (if required), applicants called are requested to bring their proof of identification without which they will not be interviewed.
8. Volvo reserves the right to disqualify any applicant if it has grounds to believe that the applicant has breached any of the rules or terms and conditions.
9. Nothing contained herein will be construed to constitute a contract between Volvo, any participant and/or participating organisation.
